EVF woes… and solutions

So… I realise it’s been a really long time since we’ve last posted anything. But that’s kinda what happens when work and a little too many classes come together.

We’ve been taking lots of pictures, but the bulk have been for work

But in any case, I recently tried to do a shoot with my X-T10 where I was trying to mix flash and ambient together. Only problem being that the ambient was too low to see at my desired settings.

It was probably something like f/2.8, 1/15s at ISO 3200, but I wanted to shoot at f/5.6, 1/125s, ISO 200, using my flashes to give me the exposure. Only problem? Setting my camera at those settings meant the EVF (and the LCD) were pitch black, because it simply reflects what the camera will see at your chosen settings!

At first I thought I’d discovered the one fatal flaw of mirrorless cameras- which would have been horrible given how I’d just gone all in on Fujifilm. But, there was a simple solution.

Setup -> Screen Setup -> Preview Exp. in Manual Mode.

Turn that off and you’re set.

Handy to have when you’re shooting ambient light, so I really wish this was something we could shift to the Q menu for two touch adjustments!
