On Improvisation and the Headshot

headshots

So… what you see above is the result of one semi-long afternoon of photography on a public holiday some two weeks ago. We didn’t really have much of a brief; I just thought it would be interesting to do some mid-tight headshots with head-gear as a common theme.

The main lighting source was a ring flash. I had originally thought to create a pattern on the backdrop with a second light, but it seems the fabric didn’t quite take the light as well as I thought it would, so the background light soon became a hair light, which helped to add a bit more detail on the headgear.

All in, a pretty enjoyable shoot, but i think the best posing came from not taking yourself so seriously and just having fun. After all, the fun shows through in the photos and you feel it too!

Thanks everyone for taking part!
